Downtown Action Plan

Regina’s Downtown Action Plan is ready for an update to achieve the City’s vision for the City Centre to be a vibrant, inclusive destination that attracts residents, visitors and investment.

A thriving Downtown benefits everyone. Downtown is the heart of the community, offering amenities, cultural events and activities while also generating taxes that help fund the services residents rely on every day. When Downtown succeeds, the rest of the city benefits.

Downtowns are also evolving. This public engagement will help shape the Action Plan and identify opportunities for the City and Downtown partners to support revitalization of Regina’s Downtown.

Why Your Input Matters

We all play a role in making Downtown a place where people want to visit and connect all year. The City is working on initiatives to address things like safety, maintenance and infrastructure to support development. Downtown businesses and organizations also offer events, programs and services that attract visitors.

  • will the City consider an improvement to weekend parking? I'm not interested in paying Impark $15 to park on a weekend, city parking is "free" but I can only stay parked for 2 hours (and there are plenty of parking attendants making sure we don't stay longer), so when I go downtown during weekend to shop, or bank, etc. I don't stay to get a coffee, meal, attend a market, because I have to move my vehicle

The City recently extended time limits in certain downtown paid parking areas on weekends and weekdays. As of June 1, some spaces offer two-hour, three-hour or four-hour time limits depending on the location. Areas with high demand for parking will maintain a two-hour limit to allow for turnover. Other areas with moderate or lower demand have moved to three or four-hour time limits. The parking map with different time limits and fees is available online here.

  • How will the action plan drive towards engaging and attracting targeted investment from the private sector in the downtown?

Building partnerships and attracting development are two of the key themes identified in the Draft Downtown Action Plan. Actions include partnering with business organizations on strategies to attract private sector investment. Additional examples of targetted actions include revising existing incentive programs or creating new ones targetted to support businesses or developers for projects that will enhance the City Centre and Downtown. For a full breakdown of actions you can read the Draft Downtown Action Plan.
