What is a functional study and why are you doing one?

    functional study looks at different possible options, checks how each one might affect things, and helps decide whether the option will actually work in practice. 

    How long will this study take?

    The study is expected to be completed by the December 2026. 

    What is the goal of the functional study?

    The purpose of the study is to determine the best route for the roadway extension, review the ground conditions, develop a suitable design and calculate how much it would cost.  

    The study will also consider environmental impacts including a rare plant and wildlife survey, heritage values, community input and develop mitigative measures. This information will be shared with Council to help inform their decision making them on this project. 

    When will construction take place?

    This study is to inform future planning and decision-making. It does not authorize construction to proceed. 

    Will there be any environmental impacts?

    Environmental considerations are being evaluated as part of the study, in collaboration with environmental organizations and regulatory agencies. rare plant and wildlife survey is being conducted in the study area. 

    How can I provide my input and feedback?

    You can share your feedback by completing the survey. Public input will help inform the design and future decisions. You can also submit questions through the Question & Answer tool or send an email to the project team via the email address listed at the top of the page.  

    How often will we receive updates as this project progresses?

    Updates will be provided on an ongoing basis as each phase of the project is completed. After the survey is closed and results are analyzed, a key findings summary will be shared.
