Varsity Park

The City of Regina, in partnership with Arcola East Community Association (ACEA), East Zone Board and Hawryluk School Community Council (SCC), are planning upgrades to Varsity Park. As we proceed, we would like to get residents' input on these upgrades.

Residents are invited to provide input on this project by answering our survey. The survey will take approximately five minutes to complete and closes on Tuesday, May 18.

The AECA, East Zone Board and the SCC heard from the community that there is a need to have additional recreation facilities to serve youth in this area. For this reason, the AECA is providing over $140,000 to improve recreation facilities for this park. This includes adding a basketball court, benches, picnic tables, trees, plus winter water service, which will allow the outdoor tennis court to be used for skating during winter. This will provide opportunities for families and youth to go outside and get active in their own neighbourhood.

Over the summer of 2021, the City plans to upgrade the existing tennis courts and spray pad at Varsity Park. This potential partnership follows through on the City’s goals to create safe, multi-use spaces for park users to enjoy all year round. Plans for upgrades are:

  • Resurfaced existing tennis court that becomes a skating rink in the winter months
  • A full court basketball facility west of the spray pad
  • Removal of the existing basketball hoop
  • Updated spray pad
  • Trees and site furnishings such as picnic tables, benches and trash cans
