The new dog park at A.E. Wilson Park was expected to be completed in 2022 but will now be postponed until 2024. This is to better coordinate with an important sewer and drainage upgrade in the area. Coordinating and prioritizing projects makes work more efficient and cost effective while reducing impacts on residents.
The sewer and drainage project, known asSouth Trunk Wastewater Capacity Upgrade Project,is needed to reducewastewater being discharged into Wascana Creek and sewer backups during large storm events.
Do you have questions about the South Trunk Wastewater Capacity Upgrade Project? Please contact Service Regina at 306-777-7000.
Previous information on the A.E. Wilson Park:
The City of Regina is committed to increasing the number of fenced off-leash dog parks throughout our community. The City currently operates three year-round off-leash dog parks, and our goal is to expand the number of sites to better serve all areas of the City.
After analysis of parks and open spaces in the city’s northwest, a portion of A.E. Wilson Park was selected as the next off-leash dog site based on the following criteria:
Appropriate distance from:
Residences
Playgrounds
Open sports fields
Schools
Rail lines, and
Roadways
Access by main transportation routes
Accessibility for people with mobility challenges
Clear sightlines into the area to promote safety
In May 2021, the City reached out to nearby residents of A.E. Wilson Park to seek their input. With their feedback now incorporated into the design, the proposed park development includes the following features:
1.6Ha (4.0 acre) fully fenced area for dogs of all sizes
Parking for 22 cars including two accessible stalls
Accessible asphalt pathways and benches within the fenced area
A paved multi-use pathway from 4th Avenue to the pedestrian bridge outside the fenced area
65 new trees both inside and outside of the off-leash area
Traffic calming features in the lane between 4th Avenue and Oriole Place
Construction is expected to begin later this year. The project’s budget is $339,000.
The City is seeking wider community feedback. Take the quick survey to let us know what you think about the City’s selection of A.E. Wilson Park and if you plan to visit once constructed. Thank you for sharing your feedback.
