What We Learned: Community Engagement Phase

With the completion of an engagement summary report, the community engagement phase of the North Central Neighbourhood Revitalization Plan is complete. You can read that report by clicking here.

The phase involved a comprehensive review of previous engagement with the community and 12 interviews with interest and rightsholders with informed perspectives and lived experience connected to the neighbourhood. Over two days in late March, more than 100 individuals participated in four in-person engagement sessions at mâmawêyatitân centre. A public survey was also distributed on paper at the public session and posted online and a total of 50 responses were received.

Two City of Regina leadership sessions were led by Jennifer Fix of Ahne Studio with City Administration, the Mayor and Mayor’s Office and Councillor Shannon Zachidniak, who represents North Central in Ward 8. The first leadership session was held January 16 to introduce the project. The second was held June 9, where the engagement results were presented and discussed along with potential plans and strategies for future direction.

Plan Writing and Next Steps

The consultants have begun work on the plan that will guide City work and investment in North Central, including both short and long-term actions and goals. To support its development and ensure it is grounded in community needs, Jennifer Fix will run a participatory planning session with members of Growing Young Movers’ North Central Strong Youth Advisory Committee. Following completion of the draft plan and its acceptance by Administration, a community event to share the draft with residents will be held in North Central to gain feedback and make adjustments before finalizing the plan by the end of 2026.
